2023-2024 GRANT RECIPIENT INFORMATION
The Grants Committee of the Kiwanis Club of Columbus solicited grant applications during the previous grant cycle.
This resulted in the Grants Committee receiving 24 Grant Applications for funding totaling $269,559. Available funding for this Grants Cycle is $64,000.
Below are the recipients for the 2023-2024 Grant Cycle:
Celebrate One
A collective impact initiative founded to reduce infant mortality and improve health equity so more babies reach their first birthdays in Franklin County. The funds will be used to purchase items such as diapers, diaper bags, car seats and other personal care items
that all pregnant and parenting families need.
Central Community House
The Youth Are Central Literacy Project is a focus area for its after school program. The project will provide intensive, ongoing onsite tutoring, help youth establish a love
for reading outside the school setting and ensure that they develop the skills they need to be lifelong, independent thinkers, readers and writers.
Columbus Early Learning Centers
This program will provide trained mental health practitioners to converse and interact with children to age five, providing an outlet so that the children can build their confidence in dealing with life’s difficult moments. The trained staff will help build trust with the children and their families, ultimately providing them with proven, healthy methods for navigating their lives.
Good Neighbors of Central Ohio
For 25 years, the annual Good Neighbors Picnic has provided guests, whether they be adults or children, the benefit of a picnic in the park. They are hosted by many volunteers who distribute clothing, blankets, books, food (hot meals and cold), games, crafts and so on. The funds will help provide new underwear and socks, plus coats (new and gently used).
LifeCare Alliance
This grant will fund
its Central Ohio Diabetes Association Camp. The camp provides children ages 3-17 living with diabetes a camping experience which encourages physical activity and daily education sessions, led my medical staff, regarding the nature of diabetes and the various methods of managing it.
Little Bottoms Free Store
Located in Franklinton, the Free Store has become Columbus’ largest free store exclusively and directly serving babies and children. It is open every Thursday
evening to provide every variety of items that underserved babies and toddlers need…including diapers, wipes, clothes, shoes and toys. Cribs are available to parents who complete a safe-sleep training.
SproutFive
Formerly known as South Side Learning and Development Center, SproutFive, a program for Building Better Beginnings is designed to counter the geographic, racial and socio-economic disparities in Franklin County, by supporting the people who interact daily with “the littles.” Though approached many ways, the overall goal is to reduce learning gaps for these littles.
Student Success Stores
This grant will help sponsor the Columbus City Schools’ South High School Store. It helps meet the basic needs of students from economically disadvantaged and remove barriers to learning that are created with life’s necessities are unavailable. Students can access hygiene products, easy-to-eat food items, snacks and mobile meals,
school-code clothing and school supplies.
